We save you money by heating your water when it’s cheapest and making sure you have hot water when you need it. And the best bit, you don’t need to do anything at all.

How does it work?

Hot water control uses new generation smart meters that are being rolled out nationwide. If you have an eligible meter you can apply to join hot water control.

You then choose the level of control that suits your household’s needs, we have six control levels to choose from. The higher the level of control, the higher the savings as the water can be turned off for longer periods avoiding peak times when electricity costs the most.

You are in control. You have the ability to update your level of control at any time, as often as you like, and there is no commitment period. Note, it can just take up to 24 hours to get your hot water onto the new control level.

For the past two years we have been trialling hot water control with 150 Octopus customers to understand how much a customer can save from unnecessary hot water heating.
